If you have concerns about the labour laws governing you, or if you would like to speak to someone about your employment situation in English, please contact the Fukushima Labour Standards Office on Wednesdays or Thursdays between 9am and 4pm. (TEL: 0245-36-4602, FAX: 0245-35-6595) The labour laws apply equally to Japanese and to foreign residents, so don't hesitate to contact the Labour Standards Office if you feel you are being mistreated.

There is an Employment Insurance system established. A worker employed in Japan, regardless of his/her nationality will be insured, and receive an insurance card through his employer.

When a worker becomes unemployed he can receive unemployment benefits if he satisfies the following requirements:

1. He has been covered by the employment insurance system is more than 6 months in total, within a year before he resigns from employment.
